LITTLE ROCK, AR (KATV) — The KATV Intern Olympics are rolling into day three, and the interns are still standing — if a little sweaty and slightly humbled by geography.
Back in the studio, the group said they were feeling “good, pretty good,” and, as one intern Catherine Spicer put it, “We’re here. We made it.”
No one bailed on the competition either, with interns saying they planned to keep persevering.
Day two featured a state-identification challenge. One intern who nailed the geography portion downplayed it, saying, “Honestly, it wasn’t too bad. I mean, I know I feel like geography’s something that you don’t always like talk about necessarily in college, but it’s you know, hey, we did it.”
When asked about his current standing in the multi-day event, Reggie Swinton II replied with a strong sense of optimism.
“Well, you know…we’ll get up there…we’ll get up there.”
Emma Beard celebrated a smaller victory: “I went two for two. It felt good to get a win.”
The next event was a pre-recorded “breaking news obstacle course,” following earlier challenges that included teleprompter and weather.
During the course, interns had to race through a setup and deliver a mock breaking news script.
The script they read included: “Breaking news: Governor Sanders has declared a state of emergency across Arkansas. As we’ve hit the fifth day in a row hitting temperatures of 100 degrees or more, residents are told only to go outside if they have to, and everyone is encouraged to stay hydrated. EMT officials will be stationed in each building to assist those who may suffer from heat-related illness. The state of emergency will remain in place until snow chances re-enter the forecast.”
A disclaimer made clear that the scenario was made up.
The heat, however, was real.
