You can “Say It Ain’t So,” but only one South Carolina record store is hosting an official listening party for Weezer’s new album.
The band posted a list of participating U.S. record stores on Instagram on July 29, along with a promise that those who attend the events will hear the band’s upcoming album, “Weezer,” commonly known as the “Gold Album,” before its official release date on Aug. 21.
“The time for gold is approaching. Those who gather on August 15th and 16th will hear Weezer first,” the caption on the post states.
Monster Music & Movies in West Ashley is the only record store in the Palmetto State hosting a listening party, according to the list shared. The indie record store, which has operated at 946 Orleans Road since 2004, will play the “Gold Album” at 3 p.m. on Aug. 15.

In addition to hearing the latest tracks from the legendary alt-rock band behind “Island in the Sun,” “Buddy Holly” and “Beverly Hills,” attendees can look forward to free pizza. Fans can contact Monster Music & Movies for more details about the upcoming listening event.
For those who can’t make it to Charleston for the listening party, several stores in North Carolina and Georgia are also participating.
Weezer was formed in Los Angeles in 1992. Since 2001, it’s consisted of Rivers Cuomo, Patrick Wilson, Brian Bell and Scott Shriner.
The “Gold Album” will be the group’s first major studio release since its 2022 “SZNZ” project, a collection of four EPs that were individually released in line with the year’s solstices and equinoxes.
The singles “We Might as Well Be Strangers” (featuring Wednesday) and “Shine Again” are available for streaming now.
Weezer last played in Charleston at Credit One Stadium, then called Volvo Car Stadium, in 2016 on a co-headlining tour with Panic! at the Disco.
