Instead, he opted for a move to Como, despite the significant effort to re-sign him from Gerry Cardinale. Indeed, the American personally called the youngster in an attempt to bring him back to Milanello, but it proved unsuccessful.
Why Liberali chose Como
Today, the Italian has spoken about why he opted for a move to Il Lariani, rather than a return home, as MilanVibes relays from SportItalia.
“He [Cesc Fabregas] called me four or five days before, wanting to start straight away. He understands our dynamics, I like him, and he’s really eager to learn. He can play in all attacking positions, from midfield to winger and false nine.
“The transfer? From the first contact with Fabregas, I knew they were very interested in me. I was also very interested in their project: coming here means arriving at an ambitious club with many young players, who are aiming to play.
“I didn’t choose Milan because I think this is the right path for me right now, then we’ll see…”
It will remain a great ‘what if’ for Rossonero and maybe he will return in the future, when he feels ready. For now, though, his path is intertwined with that of Como’s.
