The Louisiana State Employees’ Retirement System, commonly known as LASERS, is getting new leader this fall after the retirement of current Executive Director Trey Boudreaux.
Travis McIlwain will take over as executive director of the pension fund beginning Nov. 1, according to a Thursday news release from LASERS.
McIlwain has been on the executive leadership team of the retirement system since 2021, first as chief administrative officer and most recently as chief of staff, and he’s worked closely with “nearly every department,” according to the release.
Before joining the retirement system, he was state budget director at the Division of Administration and also held a number of other roles across Louisiana state government.
The retirement system is governed by a 13-member board of trustees and has roughly 100,000 members, according to the LASERS website.
As of June 2025, it holds $17.2 billion in market value of assets, the website says.
