NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. — A bat found in New Hartford has tested positive for rabies.
According to the Oneida County Health Department, the bat was sent to the New York State Department of Health Wadsworth Center for testing on July 27, and positive results were reported on July 31.
Three people were exposed to the bat and are receiving post-exposure treatment.
The Oneida County Health Department said signs of rabies include animals acting strangely, acting mad, acting shy, getting unusually close or drooling or foaming from the mouth.
The health department advises people not to approach or go near any animal, wild or stray, showing these signs.
The specific location where the bat was found was not disclosed.
