AC Milan are in a familiar position in the mercato: they need to sell players if they are to buy anyone else this summer, and there’s a clear section that must be addressed.

When you look at the Milan squad, they are pretty close to being at the level needed for next season. However, a few more additions are needed and a few departures would certainly be welcomed.

Fortunately, the area of focus for departures is rather obvious.

A bloated midfield…

This morning, Tuttosport stated that the midfield must be thinned, as MilanNews relays. Right now, eight players are fighting for two spots, which just isn’t feasible. Of course, with all the games this season, there needs to be cover.

However, there are too many names to fill too few positions this season. Luka Modric, Adrien Rabiot and Ardon Jashari are likely to be the main starters. However, you’ve then got Youssouf Fofana, Samuele Ricci, Yunus Musah, Christian Comotto, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek to account for.

Again, it is just too bloated.

For this reason, Amorim needs to be ruthless this summer and decide who needs to leave, rather than who can. Offers are on the table for Fofana, with Crystal Palace and Besiktas keen on the Frenchman, so he could be the first.

However, no decisions have been made yet and that must change.
