(ABC 6 News) — Whistle Binkies Old World Pub and Whistle Binkies on the Lake have announced they will be presenting a nearly $70,000 donation to NAMI Southeast Minnesota this week.

The donation, a total of $69,286, will be presented on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. in support of free local mental health education, support, advocacy, and suicide prevention services.

Whistle Binkies said the funds were raised through three community events, and this year’s donation means altogether, they have raised over $450,000 for mental health awareness and suicide prevention.

“We are incredibly grateful for the continued generosity of Whistle Binkies, their staff, customers, event participants, sponsors, and everyone who makes these events possible,” said Aaron Nathan, Board President of NAMI Southeast Minnesota. “This support allows NAMI Southeast Minnesota to continue offering free programs and resources to individuals and families affected by mental illness, while also expanding suicide prevention efforts across our region.”

NAMI Southeast Minnesota works to provide free support groups, peer support, mental health education, community outreach, and advocacy for individuals and families impacted by mental illness.

“Whistle Binkies is proud to support NAMI Southeast Minnesota and the important work they do in our community,” said a representative of Whistle Binkies. “Mental health and suicide prevention affect so many families, friends, coworkers, and neighbors. We are honored that these events bring people together to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and support services that make a real difference.

Whistle Binkies said the the check presentation will not only celebrate this year’s donation, but an ongoing partnership with NAMI Southeast Minnesota toward building a stronger and more supportive community for mental health.
