A suspect has been arrested following a domestic violence incident at a home in East Birmingham, Monday.Around 4 p.m. Aug. 11, officers responded to the apartment of a woman on Brussels Circle who told them that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend, according to the Birmingham Police Department.Police say they then learned that after the assault, the boyfriend ran inside the woman’s home, where her young son was.While police attempted to convince the suspect to come out, an officer was able to make contact with the woman’s son and rescue him from inside.A WVTM 13 crew at the scene saw multiple officers with their guns drawn and pointed in the direction of the residence. An officer was seen carrying a child away.Eventually, officers entered the apartment and found that it was empty. BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —

A suspect has been arrested following a domestic violence incident at a home in East Birmingham, Monday.

Around 4 p.m. Aug. 11, officers responded to the apartment of a woman on Brussels Circle who told them that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend, according to the Birmingham Police Department.

Police say they then learned that after the assault, the boyfriend ran inside the woman’s home, where her young son was.

While police attempted to convince the suspect to come out, an officer was able to make contact with the woman’s son and rescue him from inside.

A WVTM 13 crew at the scene saw multiple officers with their guns drawn and pointed in the direction of the residence. An officer was seen carrying a child away.

Eventually, officers entered the apartment and found that it was empty.

Birmingham police announced that Demetrius McClinton, 32, had been located and arrested on 30th Street Ensley Aug. 12.

The police department said McClinton faces domestic violence and kidnapping charges and was taken to the Jefferson County Jail.
