PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – The Portland Fire have converted guard Jordan Harrison from a developmental to a standard WNBA contract, the team announced Sunday.
The undrafted rookie out of West Virginia originally signed with the team out of training camp, but was later released and brought back on the developmental deal, which limits players to 12 games.
With injuries to point guards Carla Leite and Teja Oblak, Harrison was called upon for a key role in Saturday’s 100-93 victory over the Seattle Storm.
After Leite left the game late in the first quarter due to an injury, Harrison logged a career-high 28 minutes in her place. She finished the game with 13 points, seven rebounds, and six assists, also career highs, to help the shorthanded Fire hold off the Storm in the second half.
After appearing in just four games over the season’s first three months, Harrison served as Leite’s backup in the team’s previous game against the Toronto Tempo on August 6, filling in for an injured Oblak.
Earning his first significant playing time of the year, she took advantage of the opportunity, scoring eight points and dishing out four assists in a decisive 97-83 victory to help the Fire snap a five-game losing streak.
The 22-year-old has earned a reputation as a fan favorite for her hard-nosed defense and scrappy play.
The Fire suspended the contract of center Luisa Geiselsöder prior to their game Saturday, allowing the open roster space.
