VR on Linux has quite a number of sore spots but it seems Valve do continue to improve it, with the latest SteamVR Beta hopefully making it a lot nicer.
SteamVR Beta version 2.17.7 just went out for testing, with Valve noting it has “Additional improvements to wired headset support on Linux (which previously required third-party add-on layers)” which is quite exciting to see!
Valve notes as well that to see the newer SteamVR UI, you also need to opt into the Steam Beta Client.
SteamVR version 2.17.7 Key changes
SteamVR:
Recenter (long press system button) is cancellable (B button).
Improved Exit button consistency with Steam.
Fixed additional cases of SteamVR dashboard bar disappearance.
Show user notification when headset framerate changes.
Additional improvements to wired headset support on Linux (which previously required third-party add-on layers).
