Disney may finally announce a redevelopment of EPCOT’s Imagination pavilion this weekend at the D23 Fan Event in Anaheim.
Multiple sources tell WDWMAGIC that plans have been approved. We don’t have details yet, but we’re expecting news this weekend.
Fans have heard this rumor before. It’s come up at past D23 events with nothing to show for it.
Nothing is confirmed. Disney hasn’t announced any changes to the pavilion, so take this as a rumor for now.
Figment remains one of the most popular characters at EPCOT, and any update to his pavilion would likely be very well received by fans. He drives strong merchandise sales for the park, and he’s a featured character each year at the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts. That popularity is a big reason these redevelopment rumors keep resurfacing, and why an announcement, if it comes, would carry weight with longtime fans.
A Brief History of the Imagination Pavilion
The Imagination pavilion has a long, bumpy history at EPCOT.
1983: Journey Into Imagination opens with Dreamfinder and Figment, presented by Kodak.
1994: Honey, I Shrunk the Audience is added as a 3-D film.
1999: The ride is reworked as Journey Into Your Imagination. Figment’s role is cut down, and guests don’t respond well.
2001–2002: Disney closes the ride again and brings Figment back as the star in Journey Into Imagination With Figment.
2023: A Figment meet and greet opens in the ImageWorks area. Guests wait up to five hours to meet him on opening day.
2025–2026: Disney CEO’s Bob Iger and Josh D’Amaro are asked about Figment at shareholder meetings. Leadership says the character is being considered for new content, but no plans are confirmed.
The ride itself hasn’t changed much since 2002, and the Pixar shorts in the pavilion’s theater have run unchanged for years. That’s part of why redevelopment rumors keep resurfacing.

If Disney does have news, expect it during the “Horizons: A Carousel of Progress” presentation this weekend.
