Split between PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium, 10 new games are being added to Sony’s subscription service next week — but are you happy with what’s being offered?
I think August’s lineup is fairly strong, and there’s a good amount of variety on display.
Indeed, there’s a gigantic difference between Extra headliners Helldivers 2 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 alone.
Helldivers 2 has obviously been a huge live service hit for Sony, and it’s had so many updates that er, diving into it now means you’re getting a seriously robust experience.
Meanwhile, many would argue that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is one of the finest RPGs available on PS5. Its realistic, borderline sim-like approach can take a little getting used to, but it’s an impressively immersive adventure once it clicks.
Elsewhere on Extra, Vampire Survivors and Hell Is Us both deserve a shoutout. The former remains a dangerously addictive roguelike, and the latter is a really intriguing (and often downright weird) action RPG.
And if Hell Is Us isn’t quite gritty enough for you, you can try your hand at Dying Light 2 and Metro Exodus; two post-apocalyptic outings that can eat up hours upon hours of your time.
As for PS Plus Premium, there are actually two classics up for grabs this month, if you can believe it.
PS2’s Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams is a great throwback to that era of Capcom — and it might help get you in the mood for next month’s Onimusha: Way of the Sword.
Atlantis: The Lost Empire, though? Eh, a solid PS1 adaptation of the old animated film. A decent nostalgia pick, I suppose.
