The “sign-by” date is here for three Boston Bruins prospects, which officially ends their time with the organization.
All three are now unrestricted free agents, though one has already hung up his skates.
Each prospect spent the last four seasons playing college hockey within New England, but none will be moving forward with the Bruins. One will look for another opportunity at the NHL, optimistic that a team will take him on, and another is heading back home to play professionally in Sweden.
Philip Svedebäck
Philip Svedebäck played the last four seasons at Providence College, picking up a 54-38-17 record over 113 games. He won the starting job as a freshman, but lost it after he was injured during his senior year. The injury paved the way for freshman goalie Jack Parsons, who finished the season for the Friars.
The Bruins’ 2021 fourth-round pick does not sound like he wants to go back home yet. In an interview with Swedish outlet HockeySverige.se in July, Svedebäck said he is looking for more NHL opportunities.
“The plan is to stay in North America. Then we’ll see where it goes,” Svedebäck told HockeySverige.se, translated. “My agent is talking a little bit, but Boston owns my rights until August 15, so nothing can be official before then, he says.”
“Of course, there is a possibility that [returning to Sweden] could happen. But right now, my goal is to stay over there and really give it a chance, professional hockey there.”
The Bruins also signed Merrimack goalie Max Lundgren in March, bringing in another 24-year-old goaltender and tipping their hand as to their plans for Svedebäck.
Oskar Jellvik
The Bruins drafted Oskar Jellvik in the fifth round of the 2021 draft and watched him grow for the last four years. However, we knew that Jellvik was not returning to the Bruins, or the NHL, when he signed a deal with Rögle BK of the Swedish Hockey League in May.
The 23-year-old wrapped up his four-year college career with 75 points (23-52–75) in 107 games.
He broke out for 42 points (13-29–42) during his sophomore year, but was dealt an unfortunate hand with injury luck. Jellvik played in 23 games during his junior year, was held off the ice at the 2025 Bruins development camp, and then skated in nine games his senior year.
Mason Langenbrunner
Mason Langenbrunner, drafted in the fifth round of the 2020 NHL draft, is done with his hockey career. Kevin Paul Dupont reported that the defenseman is retiring from the game after four years at Harvard.
Langenbrunner finished with 26 points (9-17–26) and a minus-5 rating through 130 games at Harvard. The right-shot defenseman was named the captain for his senior year, then tied his college career high with 10 points (2-8–10).
Langenbrunner is pursuing a small business alongside two more Harvard athletes. He is the co-founder of Skye, a performance protein bar.
