Burnley manager Nicky Hayen:
“I think we played a big game today. From the start, we showed a lot of courage on the ball. We tried to press forward as high as possible. We actually did quite well, but at the end of the first half, being clinical in both boxes was key.
“They scored from a set piece where our defending made it too easy. We had chances to equalise, but we didn’t score. I think their team is more mature than ours at the moment.
“At half-time, we said ‘don’t panic’ and the moment we could bring that spark in by scoring, it changed the game.
“I know how difficult the season was last season in the Premier League, losing a lot of games. This is something that we wanted to change and we actually showed resilience today and that’s why I’m really satisfied.”
West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo:
“Burnley are a good team and Flemming is a good striker, and this is the way it is.
“This is football, we play against teams that have talented players. They play to their strengths and it’s up to us to control them better.
“I think we did better in the first half. They scored in the second half, but this is what football is all about; it’s about defending when you don’t have the ball.
“Of course, when you are in front and it’s the last minutes of the game, of course [it’s disappointing]. It’s a learning process that we have to do fast.”
