SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – A new documentary on homelessness in Sioux Falls debuts this week, examining the services, gaps, and efforts to address the problem in the city.
24 Hours on 8th Street will be showing at the State Theatre starting on Friday, with proceeds from each showing going towards non-profits like Midwest Street Medicine, the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House, South Dakota Urban Indian Health, and more.
The people behind the film said what was supposed to be 24 hours of filming turned into an entire year-long project, with one question leading to the next and speaking with many people and organizations.
“Everybody that is a part of producing the documentary is involved in the community and kind of has a pulse somewhat of what’s going on. But after we filmed those 24 hours, even we walked away with questions. So, if we have questions, then the audience is definitely going to have questions,” director Everett Palmer said.
The film has added additional viewing dates after the first two sold out. Additional dates were added for August 24 and 25.
