Emergency crews responded to the 500 block of Morgan Drive near Rosedale Avenue in Lower Swatara Township around 7:30 a.m. Investigators said the initial fire alarm call was followed by reports of smoke pouring from the home.

When crews arrived, police said they found the house engulfed in flames, and responders were notified that people might be trapped inside.

Firefighters found one person dead while battling the blaze but were forced to evacuate the home after the roof collapsed, according to investigators.

After crews brought the fire under control, they reentered the home and found two additional victims, police said.

The victims’ identities have not been released.

Public asked to avoid the area

Morgan Drive remains closed to traffic. The township and multiple fire departments are urging the public to avoid the area.

“Due to an active structure fire on Morgan Drive, residents are asked to avoid the Rosedale Avenue area while emergency crews are responding and working on scene,” Lower Swatara Township said. “Please use alternate routes and exercise caution if traveling near the area. We appreciate your cooperation and patience as first responders work to manage the incident safely.”

The incident remains under investigation by the Dauphin County Coroner’s Office, the Dauphin County Forensic Team and the fire marshal.
