SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – A preview of a new documentary about homelessness in Sioux Falls was held at the State Theatre.
The film, “24 Hours on 8th Street,” is set to premiere Friday at the theatre. Proceeds from each showing will go toward non-profits.
Those behind the film said what was supposed to be 24 hours of filming turned into a year-long project, with one question leading to the next and conversations with many people and organizations.
“Filming on the streets was as brutal as it sounds. I think it was probably the best way for us to get just enough experience with what it is like for this population to be able to tell their story. I feel like if we hadn’t done that, we would have been qualified to talk about some of these topics, and it was nice to go out there and kind of just understand what they go through every day,” said Sean Baker, cinematographer and finishing editor.

According to the State Theatre website, tickets for all showings of the documentary have sold out.
