There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding LIV Golf right now. While Scott O’Neil has announced that an agreement is in place with a lead investor, it remains to be seen whether the deal gets made official.

Bryson DeChambeau thinks LIV Golf can survive after losing top players
Reports have suggested that LIV are already resigned to losing Jon Rahm. And of course, Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed both walked away ahead of the 2026 season.
LIV has already seen its momentum stall over the last 18 months. So some would assume that losing any more key players would be fatal for the league.
But speaking to TNT Sports ahead of this week’s event in Indianapolis, Bryson DeChambeau claimed that LIV can continue if some marquee names leave.

“There’s 100 per cent a way forward if a couple leave, for sure. I think it’s dependent upon the quality of players. It has to be. We can’t lose all of them, obviously. But a few can go, and there’s a system in place to where we can still have the investor raise the capital necessary based on a certain type of player and who the players are,” he said.
“And so there’s three different scenarios from what I know. Maybe there’s more, maybe there’s not, but from what I’ve heard, it’s just three different scenarios for players to be here that allow for the investment to go through.”

It was recently announced that DeChambeau will play in the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa later this year. It is significant to see the two-time US Open champion play on the DP World Tour for the first time since 2022.
Elsewhere, Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter will make their returns to the European circuit later this year. However, as things stand, there are no plans to grant LIV players conditional releases beyond this season.
Interestingly, when that was mentioned to DeChambeau, he issued a clear three-word response.
“Oh, they will,” he said.
It is going to be fascinating to see how LIV fits into the ecosystem beyond this year.
Of course, for much of its existence LIV has been a disruptor, threatening to turn the game upside down.
The days of the league being a serious threat to the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour seem to be long gone. And DeChambeau believes that there is scope for the league to forge its own path from here.
“Yeah, look, I think the value of the game is important to talk about, from our perspective, in regards to creating everything, bringing value to every corner of the world, in every market. And I think the zero sum game that everybody’s playing right now is not great,” he said.
“And we’re looking at it from a different lens, and we’ve got a unique perspective on it that is different from the original model, of what LIV was. We’re not here to destroy. We’re not here to take over. We’re not here to do anything. We’re only here to bring value. And so I think as time goes on, I think people will see the value in team golf, albeit people have said they don’t see it.
“I think there’s a lot of people that have been impacted in a really positive way around the world because of team golf, and hopefully we can continue that trend. And, you know, again, there’s still an individual component to it. And we’re playing team golf as well, and I think next year if everything works out, you’ll see a format that is really inclusive and opportunistic for the whole world of golf.”
You cannot knock the likes of Scott O’Neil and DeChambeau who appear to have full faith in the idea of LIV thriving after this season.
It remains to be seen how many players agree with them. Certainly, many on the outside are far from convinced.
