ST. LOUIS — A local effort funded by the St. Louis Office of Violence Prevention is bringing mental health resources directly to neighborhoods affected by gun violence.
Show Me Peace hosted a community event in the Peabody-Darst-Webbe neighborhood, where residents gathered for food and games while learning about local support services.
The event featured the organization’s “Peace on Wheels” mobile unit, an RV that provides a safe space for free, confidential counseling.
Show Me Peace’s Maranda Moody said the goal is to help reduce gun violence and address the trauma that can follow.
“The goal is to help reduce gun violence and prevent trauma that comes along with gun violence,” Moody said. “It’s basically to bring healing to our St. Louis communities.”
Organizers say the mobile unit is designed to make mental health care more accessible by bringing services directly into the communities they serve.
