Two women were killed in shooting overnight near UofL’s campus.
Neither woman was a student or employee of UofL.
Police said it happened just before 2 a.m. in the 400 block of Reg Smith Circle.
At the time, students were asked to shelter in place.
The school says it issued the emergency alert following reports of a shooting at Family Scholar House.
The student success and family support center is located near the edge of the university’s Belknap campus. It is a non-university facility.
The University said the lock down was lifted around 4 A.M. on Sunday.
In a statement early Sunday morning, the university said in part, “This is a heartbreaking event for the entire Louisville community. Family Scholar House is a non-profit organization committed to helping student parents and their children — many of whom have previously experienced persistent poverty, unstable housing, and, often, domestic violence – achieve a fresh start through the transformative power of education. Our hearts go out to the residents of Scholar House and their loved ones as they grieve and attempt to process this horrific violence.”
The school added that counseling is available for students through the UofL Counseling Center, and employees can reach out to the Employee Assistance Program for help.
LMPD says they do not have any known suspects.
