Partial lunar eclipse to bring an almost ‘blood moon’ to the Lower 48
LANCASTER, Pa. —
Sky watchers across the Lower 48 states will have an opportunity to see a partial lunar eclipse Thursday night into early Friday morning.

Although the event will not be a total lunar eclipse, approximately 94% of the moon will pass into Earth’s umbra, the darkest part of its shadow. That should be enough to give much of the lunar surface the reddish hue commonly associated with a “blood moon.”
Eclipse timing, viewing forecast
The partial eclipse is expected to begin at 10:33 p.m. EDT Thursday. It will reach its maximum at 12:12 a.m. EDT Friday, Aug. 28, before ending at 1:51 a.m.
Viewing conditions in South-Central Pennsylvania and across the Mid-Atlantic could be mixed. Scattered clouds are forecast and may obstruct the eclipse in some locations. Those hoping to watch should find an area with a clear view of the sky and monitor local weather conditions as the event approaches.
