MARSHALL COUNTY, Kan. (WIBW) – Kansas health officials are asking people who recently attended the Axtell Days Festival to complete a survey after reports of salmonella cases.
According to a social media post from the Marshall Co. Health Department (MCHD), it and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) are investigating an outbreak of salmonella infections among people who attended the Axtell Days Festival from Aug. 6 to Aug. 9.
MCHD officials are asking anyone who attended the festival to complete a survey, even if you didn’t feel ill. The survey will assist officials find the source and scope of illness. The MCHD says that the survey should take approximately 10-15 minutes to finish, and participation is voluntary.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), symptoms of salmonella can include the following:
Watery diarrhea that might have blood or mucusStomach cramps that can be severeHeadacheNauseaVomitingLoss of appetite (not feeling hungry)
The CDC said that symptoms usually start 6 hours to 6 days after infection and usually last 4 to 7 days.
