Magnet Releasing has acquired Rabbit Trap, setting a September 12 theatrical release for the psychological folk horror film.

When a musician and her husband move to a remote house in Wales, the music they make disturbs local ancient folk magic, bringing a nameless child to their door who is intent on infiltrating their lives.

Writer-director Bryn Chainey makes his feature debut on the film, which premiered in the Midnight section at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. SpectreVision (Mandy, Color Out of Space) produces.
“It’s a quiet miracle that this film exists: an earthy, sound-driven psychological thriller that takes its cues from Celtic folklore and bends genre expectations,” said Chainey. “It took a very special band of misfits to drag this mad dream into being, and I’m so grateful for Magnolia now joining the gang. Their faith in such a unique film is hugely encouraging, not just for me but any filmmaker taking the path less traveled.”
Meagan Navarro wrote in her review out of Sundance, “There’s no question that Chainey is a talented filmmaker, but Rabbit Trap gets so caught up in the stunning, poetic details that the larger picture becomes inscrutable and ineffective.”
