Festivities for the 2026 U.S. Open began the week of August 24 before the world’s top tennis stars played a single point of the main competitions.
Ahead of the main festivities, Fan Week took over the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City ahead of Sunday’s first round, with qualifying and the mixed doubles championship already underway — and the celebrity turnout has arrived early with it.
On Tuesday night, tennis legend Roger Federer (who Forbes estimates recently lost his billionaire status after his sneaker company hit a sales snag earlier this month) walked onto Arthur Ashe Stadium to a standing ovation for his first competitive appearance there since 2019.
The 20-time Grand Slam champion beat longtime rival Andy Roddick 6-3 in a one-set exhibition, then partnered John McEnroe to defeat Andre Agassi and Roddick 7-5, before a drone show lit up the New York sky with his silhouette. Watching from the stands included Anna Wintour, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Kaia Gerber, Homer Gere, Tory Burch, Savannah Guthrie and more.
Serena Williams was also in attendance with the six-time U.S. Open champion returning to tennis this past June after nearly four years away. Williams drew a mixed doubles wild card with two-time champion Carlos Alcaraz and will team with her sister Venus for women’s doubles next week when the tourney officially kicks off.
