Vergennes woman released on conditions following fatal DUI crash in Ferrisburgh
Vermont State Police have charged a woman after a fatal crash involving a motorcycle on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh.
FERRISBURGH, Vt. —
A Vergennes woman is facing a charge of DUI with death resulting after a fatal crash on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh.
Vermont State Police said Faith Hobson, 30, was driving southbound on Route 7 Wednesday night when she rear-ended a motorcycle that was stopped, waiting to make a left-hand turn.
The motorcycle operator, identified as Kyle Conner, 31, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, where he later died.
While speaking with Hobson at the scene, police noticed signs of impairment. Hobson was charged with DUI with death resulting as well as reckless endangerment and grossly negligent operation.
Hobson’s lawyer entered a not guilty plea on her behalf during a court hearing on Thursday. She was ordered released on conditions and was prohibited from driving on any public roadway. She was also ordered not to drink any alcohol and must submit to alcohol testing when requested by a law enforcement officer.
Tanya Lawyer, from Bristol, said she’s acquainted with Conner’s family and attended the hearing to support Kyle. She said his death was an injustice.
“She was involved in an accident and killed a friend of the family and who was in the prime of his life, a great guy,” Lawyer said.
The defense did not comment after the hearing.
Court documents said Hobson has been living in a Homeless shelter in Vergennes. She was driving with her three children and her boyfriend at the time of the crash.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on September 21. If convicted she could face up to 15 years in prison for each of the three charges against her.
