It’s a light WNBA schedule on Saturday, with two games on tap, highlighted by the New York Liberty – the only Top 8 team in action – hosting the Chicago Sky.
The Toronto Tempo are in Phoenix in the nightcap to take on the Mercury.

Sky vs Liberty pick: Liberty
The New York Liberty should be highly motivated to get back into the win column after they scored a season-low in a 79-60 thrashing at home to the Golden State Valkyries.
New York is a Top 5 scoring offense, and a visit from the Chicago Sky, who rank outside the Top 10 in points, will be much welcomed.
There’s also a revenge element in play, as these same Sky just hung a 93-86 loss on New York on Aug 18.
That’s one of the few blips on the Liberty radar against the Sky, as they’ve won eight of the last 10 head-to-head matchups.
The Liberty currently sit 8th in the WNBA standings, so they’ve got a few games to move up and avoid the league-leading Lynx in Round 1. Saturday should be a good kickstart.
Tempo vs Mercury pick: Mercury
A bright start to the inaugural campaign for the Toronto Tempo has careened off the rails with a rash of injuries and a defense that can’t stop anyone.
Friday night’s loss to Vegas was their 15th in the last 16, and the 11th in that skid by double digits. There’s just not enough to be competitive for Canada’s lone WNBA squad.
And they’ll be again without leading scorer Marina Mabrey (adductor), Nyara Sabally (calf), leading rebounder Maria Conde (FIBA), and top assist person Julie Allemand (head).
That doesn’t include Brittany Sykes (foot) and Aneesah Morrow (knee), who have been shut down for the year.
Even though they were the home team in Vancouver, Toronto has been on the road for five straight and nine of the last 10, and they wrap it up in the second night of a back-to-back.
I don’t even care that the Phoenix Mercury have lost four straight at home. Toronto is not up to beating anyone right now.
