But the Northern Irishman wasn’t really in consideration for Luke Donald’s side in 2025. As a LIV Golf player, he was nowhere to be seen on the points list. McKibbin has missed the cut in his last four major championships and so far isn’t living up to the hype.
It looks like his time on LIV Golf could be over. At the final event of the LIV season in Indianapolis, he chose “Breaking Free” as his introductory song on the party hole in what was reported as an intentional joke about him leaving the tour.
McKibbin is likely to play on the DP World Tour next season, and he definitely will over the next few months during the Race to Dubai.
He has his sights set on the Ryder Cup in Ireland next year, and speaking at the British Masters, McKibbin explained how he plans to qualify for Team Europe.

Qualification for the 2027 Ryder Cup opens soon, and McKibbin has his sights set on Adare Manor.
He said he’s going to work hard over the fall on the DP World Tour to rack up as many points as he can.
Speaking at the British Masters, he said, “Now obviously the points start, and I’ve got a nice sort of run towards the end of the year and hopefully can play as much as I can, and hopefully play good in most of them and hopefully rack up some points.”
McKibbin has multiple years left on his LIV contract, so it’s not yet confirmed where he will be playing his golf next season. That makes these next few months vital for his Ryder Cup hopes.

He spoke about what it would mean to play in a Ryder Cup so close to home: “That would be pretty special, to play one in Ireland would be a bucket list thing to do, probably. Yeah, I’ll definitely give it my best shot.”
Regardless of where he will be playing, McKibbin must put in better performances to stand any chance of making Donald’s team next year. If he continues to miss the cut at the biggest events of the year, then it shows everyone that he simply isn’t cut out for the pressure of the moment just yet.
