As the Kansas City Chiefs work through cutting down the offseason roster to 53 players by Sunday’s deadline, general manager Brett Veach is active on the trade market. Earlier this week, he made a deal for an offensive lineman from the New York Giants.

On Saturday evening, he reportedly made another deal.

According to Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Chiefs struck a trade with the Baltimore Ravens to acquire rookie offensive tackle Diego Pounds.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the trade compensation “is contingent on the picks that Kansas City has available at the end of the season; it could result in either a Day 3 2027 pick or a Day 3 2028 pick.”

Pounds was an undrafted free agent from Ole Miss who signed with Baltimore following the 2026 NFL Draft. At the NFL Scouting Combine in March, Pounds measured 6 feet 6 inches tall and 325 pounds. His arm length measured 33 3/4 inches, and his hands measured 9 3/4 inches.

Over four seasons in college, finishing with two years at Ole Miss after starting at North Carolina, Pounds was nearly exclusively a left tackle. Pounds played just one snap at left guard compared to 2,561 snaps at left tackle in college.

This preseason, Pounds has lined up 58 times at left tackle for the Ravens. Over 26 pass-blocking snaps, Pounds has allowed no pressure over three preseason games, according to Pro Football Focus.

Two situations regarding Simmons will be important to monitor. The first will be on Sunday, when the Chiefs must trim the roster to 53 players. On cutdown day, the Chiefs can designate up to two players to be placed on the Reserve/Injured list and eligible to return during the season. Any designations made Sunday will count toward the eight allowable players to return from the list during the season. Starting Monday, any player placed on the reserve list can be designated to return at any point after Week 4 of the regular season.

Assuming Simmons makes it through early next week on the active roster, the Chiefs will issue their first injury report for Week 1’s “Monday Night Football” matchup against the Denver Broncos on Thursday, September 10.
