As part of its ongoing, $1B+ renovation of Capital One Arena, Monumental Sports & Entertainment has signed a multiyear deal to deploy AI-powered security screening systems from Xonar at the venue ahead of the start of the 2026-27 NBA and NHL seasons.
With the deployment, Capital One Arena will become the first NBA and NHL venue to adopt Xonar’s technology. Xonar is lesser known in sports than competitors like Evolv, which is in more than 50 stadiums and arenas, and Xtract One, but saw its first use in the category at BMO Stadium, home of MLS’ LAFC, starting in early 2025. MSE will install 16 of Xonar’s “TruePort” screening units across several Capital One Arena entrances, including premium areas. The units use advanced sensors and AI to detect potentially threatening metal or non-metal items. The venue will also use four of Xonar’s “TrueScan” X-ray systems, which specifically help identify prohibited items in bags.
The deployment continues MSE’s build-out of Capital One Arena’s new technology stack, which includes Cisco WiFi 7 and IP-based networks, Wicket facial ticketing systems, and a new LED concept called “Visibowl” that will display a live feed of what is happening inside the arena on floor-to-ceiling screens out on the concourse.
