Otter Falls Asleep Sucking His Thumb Like a Baby in Most Precious Clip originally appeared on PetHelpful.
Have you ever seen an otter suck his thumb? Well, brace yourself. This is an otter operating at a DANGEROUS level of cuteness. This one should have a warning sticker on it. Come to think of it, all otters should.
They float around holding hands, for crying out loud. On their backs, all relaxed mode. They juggle rocks for fun like little Vegas street performers. And now they’ve decided they’re not cute enough, so they’ve gone all nuclear in THUMB SUCKING MODE.
You have been warned.
Can we all just do a national poll already and induct them into the ‘cutest animal’ ever slot and have it done with? So…
What’s With Otters? Why Are They So Cute?

I gave this over to Google thinking they were going to give me a really good, logical yet very scientific reason why because… SCIENCE! But nope! Otters are just cute because they are. HA! Let’s make a list, shall we?
They use tools like tiny, adorable, furry cavemen. They smash things with rocks to break them open, and they have a loose patch of skin under their armpit where they actually store their tools–like a built-in toolbelt! They’re nature’s little handymen.
Depending on the species, they use different vocalizations to communicate their needs and feelings, including chirping, purring, whistling, and growling. (Which are all adorable, aside from the growling, but I bet even otters make that cute.)
They have the densest fur in the entire animal kingdom, with 1 million hairs per square inch. This water-resistant fur traps air for insulation, and is essential for their survival in cold temperatures. And it makes them look adorable.
And then, besides all these cool facts, there’s all the other things: the big eyes, the cute hands, the playfulness and curiosity.

I think we’ve seen and read all we need to. To this evidence, I will add the fact that I was walking my dog one night, and I walked by my local pond, and I saw one back stroking with a fish in his mouth, and I nearly fainted from cuteness. YES! It’s a real thing–fainting from cuteness, and it almost happened to me! That’s how dangerous these otters are. Add that to the evidence!
I think we can close the case. Otters are the cutest things ever.
