Police say person attacked by fisher in Lebanon, New Hampshire
LEBANON, N.H. —
The Lebanon Police Department is investigating a reported fisher attack over the weekend.
The department said officers were notified of a reported animal attack near Centerra Parkway on Sunday. The person told officers that they were attacked by what is believed to be a fisher. Officials said they believe the attack was unprovoked based on the information they were provided with.
Members of the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department have been notified of the attack. Police said residents and visitors should be cautious and remain aware of their surroundings, especially when walking near wooded areas.
If you see a fisher acting aggressively, you should avoid the animal and contact either local police or New Hampshire Fish and Game.
If you have been bitten or scratched by a wild animal, you should seek medical attention and call police.
The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department said a fisher, which is known by its scientific name of Martes pennanti, is a member of the weasel family. It is a small, forest-dwelling carnivore that generally lives in forests and eats small-and medium-sized mammals such as mice, voles, shrews, squirrels and muskrats, among others.
