Oklahomans can now add an eligible Oklahoma Driver License or State ID to Apple Wallet on an iPhone or Apple Watch.

The digital ID can be used at participating airport security checkpoints and businesses, but it does not replace a physical Oklahoma credential.

1. Oklahoma IDs can now be added to Apple Wallet

Eligible Oklahomans can add their driver license or state ID through the Apple Wallet app on an iPhone. The digital ID can then be used with an iPhone or Apple Watch to present and verify identity or age.

“Making Oklahoma a Top Ten state means embracing innovation and delivering government services that keep pace with the people we serve,” said Governor Kevin Stitt. “Oklahoma ID in Apple Wallet is another step forward in modernizing state government and putting technology to work for Oklahomans.”

2. The digital ID is accepted at some airports

Oklahoma ID in Apple Wallet can be presented at participating Transportation Security Administration checkpoints at Tulsa International Airport, Will Rogers International Airport in Oklahoma City, Stillwater Regional Airport and Lawton-Fort Sill Regional Airport.

Acceptance can vary by airport, terminal and checkpoint.

3. Users control what information they share

When presenting a digital ID, users can see what information is being requested before approving the transaction. Only the requested information is shared after authorization with Face ID or Touch ID.

Users do not need to unlock, show or hand over their device.

4. Businesses can verify IDs with Oklahoma Reader

Businesses interested in accepting digital IDs can use Oklahoma Reader, a free app for compatible devices that does not require additional hardware.

The app allows businesses to verify a customer’s age by sharing only the requested information. It does not collect or store customer data or keep a record of verification transactions.

“We are working with Service Oklahoma to help alcoholic beverage establishments and tobacco and nicotine retailers prepare to accept Oklahoma ID in Apple Wallet beginning Sept. 14,” said Lori Carter, Assistant Director of the Oklahoma Alcoholic Beverage Laws Enforcement (ABLE) Commission. “Secure electronic verification gives businesses another reliable way to confirm a customer’s age and help prevent underage sales.”

5. A physical ID is still required

Oklahoma ID in Apple Wallet is an optional digital companion to a physical driver license or state ID, not a replacement.

Oklahomans must continue to carry their physical credential, including while driving and anywhere a physical credential may still be required.

How to Add and Use an Oklahoma ID to Apple Wallet

To add an eligible Oklahoma Driver License or State ID to an iPhone and Apple Watch:

Open the Apple Wallet app on an iPhone.Tap the Add (+) button.Tap Driver’s License or ID and choose Oklahoma.
