AC Milan failed in a late attempt to sign Goncalo Inacio from Sporting CP but they are expected to try again.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), it’s clear that Milan – led by a new Gerry Cardinale in direct command of operations – have completely changed their negotiating approach compared to recent seasons.

This was demonstrated by the signings of Goncalo Ramos, Mario Gila, and Diego Moreira, three players the club considers ready to make a difference immediately. They cost a lot, but there is no longer room for cheap players.
This is Cardinale’s vision and it will continue to be pursued in the future, starting with the defender who hasn’t arrived but for whom they will try again in January.
Inacio pursuit
The paper reveal that Milan were very close to signing Gonçalo Inacio in the final 48 hours of the transfer window. Since Ruben Amorim’s first days at the club, the Sporting centre-back has been considered one of the main targets for the defence.
The coach knows him well and wanted to reunite with him, so much so that a €40m offer was made in the last few hours, which Sporting accepted. However, the Portuguese club made it clear they had to find a suitable replacement first.
This last condition was not met, and so the deal fell through. Or rather, it was shelved – because despite Fikayo Tomori’s reinstatement – Cardinale’s plan is to go back in for Inacio when the window reopens.
