In recent years, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been more divisive than positive for AC Milan, but the Swede appears to now have a different role.

Finding someone who has as much love for Ibra now as they did in the Scudetto season is tough. Since his return to the club, his role has caused plenty of discussions and very few of them have seen him leave as a more positive figure.

It’s unfortunate, but it seems that his role has now changed.

Ibra’s new role

As Calciomercato.com writes, Ibrahimovic is no longer at the front and centre of the Rossoneri project, taking a back seat. Instead, Gerry Cardinale is in the driving seat, with Massimo Calvelli taking the role as the CEO.

It is believed that he stepped back from the role which he previously held, but the agreement between Cardinale and Ibra is no different. Indeed, the contract which he signed stated that he would be a consultant across several areas spanning from recruitment to being a ‘global brand ambassador’.

During the summer, it was suggested that he’d be moving into a more commercially driven role this season and this much seems true, with the former striker disappearing, almost, from the Diavolo sphere.

It would seem that Zlatan now focuses on the United states, working with ‘major Hollywood film and television production companies’, as well as ‘governments, multinationals, and current and potential commercial partners’.

The initial idea from Cardinale was to have a charismatic figure at Milan in Italy, hence Ibrahimovic’s placement. However, it now seems that this idea is over, or at least less pronounced, with Cardinale taking the reins.
