The Jefferson City Lady Jays made history last season as the first girls golf team to qualify for the state tournament since 1993.
Now the Lady Jays will look for a repeat performance.
Jefferson City opens the season today with a dual at Fulton.
The Lady Jays return a pair of sophomores that gained valuable experience during that postseason run in Lily Caudle and Caroline Hensley.
Both finished in the top 10 last season at the Class 3 District 2 Tournament to help Jefferson City win a team district title, with Hensley finishing fifth with a 95 and Caudle two places behind with a 98.
At the state tournament, Caudle tied for 45th with a two-day total of 196 and Hensley tied for 59th with a 207.
The duo will now look to pass on that experience to a Jefferson City roster of eight golfers this fall.
New to the varsity roster this year are senior Alayna Bennett, sophomores Myla Ahrens and Tiffany Timmerman and freshmen Emma Barry, Sylvia Stegeman and Lorelei Woods.
The Lady Jays will play in five tournaments this season — the Helias Invitational (Wednesday), the Smith-Cotton Classic (Sept. 14), the Jefferson City Invitational (Sept. 28), the Central Missouri Activities Conference Tournament (Oct. 1) and the Battle Spartan Invitational (Oct. 6).
Jefferson City will also have two quads — Sept. 16 at Eldon and Sept. 24 against Rock Bridge, Hickman and Batttle — and a dual against Capital City on Sept. 29.
The Lady Jays graduated four seniors from a season ago, including two-time all-state finisher Mia McGraw, who is now playing in college at Evansville (Ind.).
