Unemployment numbers continue upward trend in northern Arkansas, southern Missouri in July

The latest unemployment numbers from the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services and the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center show unemployment continued their upward trend in north central Arkansas and southern Missouri in July when compared to the June numbers.

In Baxter County, the rate went up from 4.5% in June to 4.6% in July. Baxter County’s rate is tied for the 26th lowest out of Arkansas’ 75 counties. There are 820 unemployed Baxter County residents out of a workforce of 17,674.

Marion County’s rate increased from 6% in June to 6.3% in July, which is tied for the 6th-highest rate in the state. Marion County has 342 residents out of work from a labor force of 5,448.

Fulton County’s unemployment rate increased from 5.5% in June to 5.6% in July, which means they are tied for the 55th-lowest rate in the state. Fulton County has a labor force of 4,102, and 228 are unemployed.

The unemployment rate in Izard County went up from 6.2% in June to 6.4% in July, which is the 6th-highest unemployment rate in the state. There are 261 Izard County residents unemployed out of a workforce of 4,086.

Stone County saw its rate increase from 5.5% in June to 5.6% in July. That ranks Stone County 55th in the state. There are 4,162 in the labor force in Stone County with 232 unemployed.

Searcy County’s unemployment rate moved up from 4.2% to 4.7% in July, tying it for the 31st-lowest rate in Arkansas. There are 151 people unemployed in Searcy County out of a workforce of 3,200.

Boone County saw its rate go up from 4.4% in June to 4.5% in July, which ties for the 25th-lowest rate in the state. Boone County has a workforce of 16,175 with 731 out of work.

Newton County is tied for the state’s 51st-lowest unemployment rate at 5.3%, up from 4.9% the previous month. Newton County has a labor force of 2,635 with 140 of those unemployed.

Arkansas’s state unemployment rate in July was 4%, down from 4.1% in June.

In southern Missouri, Ozark County saw its rate go up from 5.4% in June to 5.9% in July. Ozark County had 189 unemployed out of a workforce of 3,205.

Douglas County’s unemployment rate rose from 4.1% in June to 4.3% in July. Douglas County has a labor force of 4,858 with 209 unemployed.

Howell County’s unemployment rate had an increase from 4.6% in June to 5% in July. In Howell County, there are 814 unemployed out of a workforce of 16,325.

Taney County’s rate went up from 3.9% in June to 4.1% in July. Taney County’s labor force is 29,513, with 1,199 unemployed.

Missouri’s state unemployment rate increased to 3.9% in July, up from 3.7% in June.

Unemployment in the United States stayed at 4.4% in July.
