MACHIASPORT, Maine (WABI) – A three-legged doe known as Tripod was found dead over the weekend along with a fawn after both were hit by a car.
The doe had lost one of its legs in a hunting accident in Machiasport but was still able to get around.
Amateur wildlife photographer Tanya Decatur befriended the deer after photographing the doe in her backyard. Her photo of tripod and here three fawns went viral.
Decatur said Tripod had taken in at least one of the fawns after another doe was struck by a car in the area.
Decatur found tripod and a fawn dead in her driveway on Sunday.
