LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — The city of Lynchburg announced on Thursday that the Lynchburg Water Resources will begin providing additional water to Campbell County because of drought conditions.

The additional supply will serve the Wards Road and Timberlake Road areas of Campbell County as the Campbell County Utilities and Service Authority (CCUSA) deals with lower-than-normal flows in the Big Otter River, its water source. This change affects roughly 4,000 customers.

Officials said that customers in the Wards Road and Timberlake Road areas may temporarily experience discolored water as the supply is transferred. This discoloration can occur when changes in water flow disturb naturally occurring sediment within water lines and does not necessarily indicate a problem with the water supply.

Customers who experience discolored water should run cold water from a bathtub faucet for three to five minutes, or until the water runs clear.

Lynchburg Water Resources customers whose water does not clear should call the department’s 24/7 emergency hotline at 434.455.4250.

Lynchburg’s water system is supplied by Pedlar Reservoir and the James River. Lynchburg Water Resources said it continues to monitor water supply conditions and follow the city’s established drought response plan.

At this time, conditions do not require water-use restrictions for Lynchburg customers, officials said.
