MADISON (WKOW) — City officials say roots blocked a sanitary sewer main, causing an overflow that sent 500 gallons of sewage onto the street and into the storm sewer on the city’s east side.
Engineering Division spokesperson Hannah Mohelnitzky said someone reported the overflow just before 8 a.m. Thursday on the 600 block of Acewood Boulevard, which is a few blocks north of Cottage Grove Road.
Mohelnitzky said wastewater was seen coming out of a manhole.
City of Madison Engineering crews arrived at 8:20 a.m., cleared the obstruction and stopped the overflow by 8:35 a.m. Mohelnitzky said crews had the street surface, storm sewer and sanitary sewer cleaned by 9:25 a.m.
