Vehicle leaves roadway in Dundalk, injuring at least six students near Baltimore County high school
DUNDALK, Md. —
Baltimore County police said detectives assigned to the crash team are investigating a pedestrian crash that injured six students as they were walking home in Dundalk.
According to preliminary information, at around 2:45 p.m.,a vehicle reportedly left the roadway and struck six juveniles near Dundalk High School. Police said the students were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries.
An additional patient was evaluated but refused medical transport.
“It’s dangerous, it’s crazy. I would never expect it, but I feel like it was eventually going to happen because so many people come flying down the road,” said Elyas Chemmach, a student at Dundalk High School. “If there’s traffic or something, they would go on the shoulder to get around traffic.”
In a message sent to parents, Baltimore County Public Schools confirmed the students struck were part of the Dundalk High School community.
“I want to make you aware of a serious incident that occurred this afternoon following dismissal. Several students were struck by a vehicle while walking home at Delvale Road and Holabird Avenue,” the communication sent to parents read. “The students were taken to local hospitals with minor injuries and are receiving medical care.”
“It’s terrible actually my homegirl’s daughter is one of them,” said Nihjah Dozier. “She’s 15, she was unconscious for a minute, but she’s doing a lot better now. It was her and three of her friends (and other students) hit.”
The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.
The crash happened just steps away from where 15-year-old Lynn Brooks was killed in 2019 when a woman, who was speeding and driving under the influence of an opioid struck the girl who was walking on a sidewalk.
