EUGENE, Ore. — The moon and stars were not the only thing in the sky on Wednesday night.
Many viewers sent in video that looked like a meteor shower.
But it wasn’t that, either.
So what was this fire in the sky?
“It looked like the reentry process of the rocket’s thrusters,” explains Kevin Davis, Eugene Science Center’s Planetarium Manager. “They break apart in the upper atmosphere and you’re seeing the debris burning up as it builds up a lot of heat and friction. You can get occasional meteors that will look like that, but you won’t see the big clusters like that unless it’s a pretty significant event – and if it was, that would be interesting.”
