Q: Ira, wouldn’t it be such a Heat move to sign Devin Carter off waivers? – Robin.

A: Yes, it would, considering how the Heat have long brought in sons of those who have been with the organization or those whose parents have had ties with the organization. The Heat have both the salary-cap and roster-space wherewithal to make a move for the son of former Heat guard and assistant coach Anthony Carter. The question is why have both the Kings and Hawks both given up on Devin, the No. 13 pick in the 2024 draft who is only 24? That is where the background on those shoulder, ankle, calf and back injuries will come into play. Devin certainly stood as enticing in the 2024 draft coming out of Providence.

Q: They need a point guard to start the season, so get one sooner than later. Where has the offense ranked the last three years with no point guard? This procrastination has to stop. – Mo.

A: Only the Heat’s cap/roster situation calls for prudence. It’s not procrastination when you essentially only have one salary left below the hard cap and only have one spot left on your standard roster (assuming that Nick Richards and Myron Gardner are retained). So it’s more about getting it right, even if that means perhaps seeing who eventually shakes free. Who knows, for that matter perhaps Chris Paul or Russell Westbrook decide to un-retire?

Q: Gotta let the season play out. Let’s see how Pelle Larsson does. – Dragon.

A: Disagree. It’s looking like Pelle Larsson’s price point could skyrocket this season. And you certainly don’t want to artificially restrain his future earning power by limiting his exposure this season, a season when the Heat will be in win-now mode. If a workable compromise salary can be reached, then do the extension before next summer’s free agency.
