ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — With three golf tournaments happening in western North Carolina during a short time, there is a lot of excitement around the sport.

In Biltmore Village, today was spent building a custom professional-level 100-foot putting green.

“We actually have a challenge that we are selling tickets to. We have a big grand prize associated with it. If you win the challenge, which is a hole-in-one on the 100-foot putt. It is a massive grand prize, worth over $5,000,” said the Historic Biltmore Village Association executive director, Kara Irani.

Irani said the area is great for golfers and they wanted to get in on the fun of anticipating the Biltmore Championship Asheville week.

“We’re an outdoors sports town anyway; golf is a very natural extension of that, having started in the highlands of Scotland. And I think the connection here for us is we have people who come here for the beauty of the outdoors and that is something that golf lovers of all types really come here for,” Irani said.

The 100-Foot Putt Challenge is on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 3:30 p.m., right after a 2 p.m. block party.
