Candace Parker is the only rookie to ever win MVP in WNBA history, accomplishing the feat in her debut season with the Los Angeles Sparks in 2008.
Parker won Rookie of the Year and MVP in the same season while averaging 18.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.3 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game. The Sparks went 20-14 during the 2008 campaign.
Cynthia Cooper and Yolanda Griffith both won the MVP award in their first season in the WNBA, but both players were older veterans with prior pro experience. Cooper was 34 when she claimed her MVP trophy in 1997, while Griffith won at 29 in 1999.
As a result, Parker is the lone player in WNBA history to win MVP and Rookie of the Year in the same season.
