21st Annual CANstruction returns to Downtown Honolulu

  • September 15, 2026

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Unique sculptures made of thousands of canned goods are taking over a new downtown location for the 21st annual AIA Honolulu CANstruction competition.

Held inside the Central Pacific Bank atrium, the event features eight teams of local architects and designers testing their skills by building massive 3-D sculptures entirely out of canned food.

Honoring AIA Hawaii’s 100th anniversary, this year’s theme, “CANtennial: Designs of the Decades,” challenges teams to recreate iconic moments from each era, organizers said.

All cans will be donated to the Hawaii Foodbank. The public can view the sculptures and vote for the People’s Choice Award now through Friday, Sept. 18. Each $1 vote serves as a direct donation to the food bank.

Over its 21-year history, the competition has collected 787,005 pounds of canned goods and raised more than $110,000 for the food bank.
