The Boston Celtics have made another minor roster move.

On Monday afternoon, HoopsHype reported that the Celtics had signed Caleb Grill.

Less than 24 hours later, it was reported that the Celtics had waived Grill.

There’s a simple explanation for the transaction.

Why the Celtics waived Caleb Grill

This appears to be the same situation as Hank Morgan, the former Division III star the Celtics signed and waived over the weekend.

Grill’s contract is likely an Exhibit 10 deal, which could make him eligible for a bonus of up to $91,000 if he joins Boston’s G League affiliate, the Maine Celtics.

Grill is a 26-year-old guard from Wichita, Kansas. He played at Iowa State, UNLV and Missouri before going undrafted in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Grill was named the SEC Sixth Man of the Year in 2025 after averaging 13.7 points and 3.6 rebounds per game for Missouri.

Grill spent the 2025-26 season in the G League with the Windy City Bulls and Greensboro Swarm. He averaged 7.8 points per game while shooting 43.9 percent from 3-point range for the Swarm, who went on to win the G League championship.

If Grill joins the Maine Celtics, he’ll have an opportunity to continue his career in Boston’s system.

Grill already has some familiarity with the franchise, having played for the Celtics in Summer League.
