Possible bobcat sighting reported in St. Joseph County amid uptick in killed livestock, pets

  • September 16, 2026

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. (WNDU) – Residents in southern St. Joseph County are on alert following reports of a wild bobcat on the loose, alongside a recent uptick in killed pets and livestock.

Over the past couple of weeks, neighbors in Greene Township report multiple animals have been killed in the 63000 block of Orange Road. Neighbors said cameras in the area recently captured footage of both coyotes and what appears to be a healthy bobcat roaming nearby.

On Friday, Sept. 11, a bobcat ventured onto a deck in the 63000 block of Oak Road, where a resident captured photos of the animal.

While the bobcat sighting has drawn significant neighborhood attention, residents said the large cat may not be the sole culprit behind the attacks, noting active coyote packs in the area could also be to blame.

With predators active across the south side of the county, neighbors are urged to stay vigilant and monitor pets and small children while they are outside.
