TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – A film festival in Topeka gave locals an early look at sci-fi and horror movies ahead of the fall season.
The Slash and Bash Film Fest has been showing films at Cosmos Court in downtown Topeka for over 20 years.
The fest features seven movies, a costume contest and a short film contest for anyone who attends a screening.
While some more widely known movies will appear on screen, the owner of the film fest, Keith Van Sickle, said the purpose of the event is to show people lesser-known horror and sci-fi films.
“I think that helps out the whole movie society, because there are so many movies that aren’t recognized that we show here, and that is something that I love to do,” Van Sickle said.
Slash and Bash ends Saturday, Sept. 19 at 11:30 p.m.
Cosmos Court will continue to show free movies every Monday for the rest of the year.
