An 88-year-old man died Saturday afternoon after crashing the vehicle he was driving into a building, according to the Fremont police department.
At around 12:12 p.m., police officers responded to a single-vehicle crash in the Niles Boulevard and Cinematic Common area, near Mission Boulevard.
When authorities arrived at the scene, they located the unresponsive driver, officers said in a news release. The driver was taken to a local trauma center, where he later died from his injuries, officials said.
Police said the driver was the only person in the vehicle. No bystanders were injured, according to the release
Officers said the collision is still under investigation, but “speed has not been ruled out.” It is unclear whether the driver’s health or any pre-existing medical conditions may have contributed to the collision, according to police.
This is Fremont’s ninth fatal traffic collision this year.
