After an extremely exciting day 1 of Davis Cup on Friday, Saturday promises to be just as compelling with several interesting matchups in prospect. Some of them might not look particularly appealing ranking-wise, but with every player putting everything on the line for the sake of their country we are sure to see some really dramatic matches.
Davis Cup Day 2 Predictions
Soonwoo Kwon vs Sumit Nagal
Head-to-head: first meeting
Kwon is very far from his best days, where he was ranked as high as #52, but he did get a win today and is, at least on paper, still a superior player to Nagal. The latter has been struggling to get any good results lately, lost to Hyeon Chung today and shouldn’t have much of a chance here under normal circumstances.
Prediction: Kwon in 2
Cristian Garin vs Rafael Jodar
Head-to-head: first meeting
Jodar suffered a surprising yet crushing defeat in the first round of the US Open, showing that he might perhaps be a bit worn out physically and mentally after an extraordinary breakthrough season. That performance definitely gives some pause, but under normal circumstances Jodar should be a clear favorite here, especially with how little Garin has been playing lately.

Alexander Zverev vs Matej Dodig
Head-to-head: first meeting
Dodig has been getting some excellent results on the Challenger Tour, even if they have occured almost exclusively on clay. However, he will now be facing the reigning Roland Garros and US Open champion, in what will be by far the biggest challenge he has faced in his career so far. While Zverev might not be 100% physically and mentally less than a week after winning his second Grand Slam title in New York, the gulf in quality and experience is massive here and it’s very hard to envisage a scenario where the German doesn’t win with relative ease here.
